I’ve read Oleanna twice and have never been able to side with anyone. Taking into account that the play is based on the Anita Hill - Clarence Thomas hearings—-it does however raise questions.
But… excuse the irony, I just don’t understand. I can’t see any ambiguity at all. The violence that’s at play, the abuse of power, John trying to redirect the consequences of his actions to being about his own feelings, his caring more about maintaining his position of power than the well-being of the student he systematically abused… the thought of there being any gray area or things to question here makes no sense to me.
